Did you ever think you knew what path you wanted to walk down? I thought I did...
I was sure I wanted to be on stage, be in front of the camera and perform to an audience.
Don't get me wrong, I loved acting, and I loved the thrill of being in front of a live audience and hearing the applause; knowing I had done my job and entertained them with my fellow cast mates. I may not be gracing the stage now, but I will never say, 'never again' and I have the up most respect for theatrical masses that do.
I've been blessed with my fair share of roles from comedy to tragedy. Traditional, physical, theatre and film. However, over time, I began to feel uncomfortable. I wasn't feeling as confident as I used to be. Let's be honest. I felt like a bit of an idiot. I mean, it could be because I was begin to focus on a new path; my true calling. During rehearsals I would try to concentrate on remembering and delivering my lines. Getting inside the head of my character, but there was always one of MY OWN characters who would be trying to get my attention. Despite telling them to 'sod off, Mum is busy right now', it never seemed to work. They always want you when you're trying to focus on something else. Like children nagging for attention. And I found I would answer them (in my head) rather than being in the theatrical moment. The writing soon found itself at the front of mind and I began bringing my iPad and laptop to rehearsals to work on my books in between scenes when I was not needed. Even when I was in a 'behind the scenes' role. A notepad or two was always in reach in case inspiration hit, and it did.
This was it. I had to make a decision. I knew I wasn't feeling as comfortable on stage as I once was, and I was very well aware that my passion for writing and creating was growing stronger each day I sat at my laptop. You just have to ask my colleagues from Saltrock, they were there and watched it happen!
I am still in contact with my theatre friends and I have the upmost respect for them and anyone who graces the stage. It broke my heart recently, as I has to turn down an opportunity to read and audition for a part in which a close friend was directing. However the last thing I wanted was to feel like I was not "in the room" at any given time because my mind was elsewhere, focusing on the launch of One Night Forever, and hold the play back from what I know will be an outstanding production of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard". Directed by Phil Turley. (Thank you for thinking of me Phil)
So there you have it, the reason why I stepped away from theatre and performing. Like I said, I will never say, never again. For now though, my heart is in my writing and creating worlds in which readers can escape. An escape for not only them, but for me to enlighten and broaden my skills as an author.

THOMAS ANTHONY LAY
Now, I'm shaming this one with a photo, not because he's my favourite in the RhetAskew Family, oh no, but because he had the cheek to assume I was going to add him to my blog without a "Oh, Amy, please may I have a shout out?" (Pay back for you stealing my phone at New Years Tom!)
No honesty, Tom was the one who introduced me to RhetAskew, so I am extremely thank full to him.
